WADA GAROU TOKYO Lab. is pleased to present Raw Memory, Flat Record〔Chanting Fiction〕, a solo exhibition by Kyaraai.

Kyaraai, a rising artist known for her pastel-toned works of large-eyed girls influenced by shōjo manga, began her career in her early teens and has built a devoted following online. Her art delves into the emotional "fluctuations" of joy and pain in digital spaces, reflecting the complexities of contemporary relationships. Inspired by the charm of kawaii stuffes, she creates playful, toy-like works.

This exhibition continues the theme of her October 2024 Kyoto show, expanding on it with new drawings and canvas works inspired by personal and intimate photographs. Through these pieces, Kyaraai deepens her exploration of "memory" and "record," inviting viewers to engage with these reflective themes.

PROFILE
Kyaraai
Born in Osaka, Kyaraai got a BA from Kyoto University of the Arts in the art produce.
 
Her work centers on the theme of "self-awareness amidst fluctuations." Living in an era where social media exposes people to diverse perspectives and values, she reflects on the sense of disorientation—absorbing countless influences while grappling with what is true, her identity, and her affiliations. This sense of floating uncertainty deeply informs her artistic practice, with her works serving as vessels to process and explore these feelings.
 
Drawing inspiration from the large, expressive eyes seen in the shōjo manga she loved as a child and the vibrant charm of whimsical trinkets, Kyaraai’s work captivates viewers with its distinctive, eye-catching style. Her creations invite audiences into a dialogue with the characters she depicts, fostering a uniquely personal connection.
