Wada Garou is pleased to present NICHE BIENNALE, opening on March 17, 2026. 

This exhibition honors the legacy of the late Tomiya Nishimura—an artist who, alongside his own painting practice, directed NICHE GALLERY for over two decades beginning in 2000. Through the gallery, he created opportunities for numerous artists and devoted himself to fostering emerging talent.

Nishimura was more than an artist or gallerist; he was a guiding presence to many. He stood beside them as a committed mentor, engaging deeply with their work, sharing their doubts and struggles and believing in their potential.

Held biennially, NICHE BIENNALE brings together artists connected to Nishimura, creating a space where their current practices converge. Yet this exhibition is not merely an act of remembrance. The works presented here carry forward the questions and perspectives he instilled, even as each artist continues to evolve in new directions. 

To inherit is not to preserve form unchanged, but to renew a spirit through one’s own expression. We hope this exhibition will serve as a point of departure for the future trajectories of the participating artists.
