Wada Garou Tokyo is pleased to present It Goes On, a solo exhibition by artist Aya Motomura.
This exhibition features a new body of work that combines a range of printmaking techniques, including copperplate etching, paper plate printing, and monotype. Among them, her exploration of paper plate printing—using paper itself as the printing matrix—marks a first for the artist, opening up a new horizon in her practice. Motomura first presented monotype works in her solo show at our gallery last year. In this exhibition, she returns to the technique in a more experimental mode, incorporating water-based media such as watercolor and acrylic, and bringing fresh nuance to the process of drawing on and printing from aluminum plates. These are further layered with pastel and colored pencil, inviting a more intimate dialogue between the artist and the image. Rooted in the traditional craftsmanship of copperplate etching, Motomura’s works quietly blend a sense of contemporary sensibility with a gentle touch of nostalgia. In this new series, her soft and lyrical expressions take on a renewed brightness and lightness, allowing new stories to quietly unfold on the page. The exhibition title, It Goes On, was chosen by Aya Motomura herself. It carries a quiet prayer for the daily act of drawing and making, and reflects Wada Garou’s own hopes as we begin this new chapter in our relocated space, continuing our journey one step at a time.
