Wada Garou is pleased to present “Meisō・LOVE,” a solo exhibition by Kyoto-based artist and ceramicist Jun Kawajiri.
Born into a pottery family with roots in the Edo period, Kawajiri earned his doctorate at Tokyo University of the Arts and has exhibited widely in Japan and abroad. His works are held in the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art, the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, and the Swedish Royal Collection. He is currently Professor at Kyoto University of the Arts and Crafts. Influenced by the Japanese aesthetic of imperfection, Kawajiri intentionally incorporates cracks, distortions, and chips, affirming existence in its unembellished state. Reflecting on his practice, Kawajiri shares: “My work continues to wander — still questioning, still exploring — yet at its core remains a single conviction: love is everything.” The title Meisō・LOVE embodies this duality: Meisō reflects the uncertainty of life and creative practice, while LOVE represents a guiding principle — a prayer for peace and a reminder to embrace fragility, imperfection, and human connection. Through playfulness and boldness, the exhibition invites viewers to consider love as a source of hope and a compass in life’s wandering journey. 1964♡ No.1 Overglazed and gold paint on ceramics, 19×6×H20cm, 2025
