Wada Garou is pleased to present Street Fragments, a solo exhibition by Shunichi Iwata.
The artist has long explored everyday subtle presences through printmaking, often using familiar materials with humor and warmth—printing from T-shirts or turning corners of his home into plates, gently expanding the possibilities of print as an accessible form. In this exhibition, the artist turns his attention to motifs encountered while walking around his neighborhood: playground equipment, signs, roadside plants, lost objects, and familiar characters. The artist photographs, sketches, and reconstructs these fragments in clay, creating small tactile sculptures that become stamps. Pressed onto paper, these hand-molded forms leave soft silhouettes, carrying a quiet trace of the street—memories that seem to have traveled away and returned with a gentle warmth. The exhibition features around fifty original stamp plates, works on paper created from them, and clothing pieces layered with prints as “records of walking.” Ordinary street elements, often overlooked, reappear through the artist’s process with the intimacy of a diary that quietly celebrates the small moments of everyday life.
