The Garden of Faces

December 12th
— 27th, 2025
Wada Garou is pleased to present The Garden of Faces, a group exhibition featuring new works by Takuto Kadokura, uxouxo BIRD, and Maya Nukumizu, on view from December 12 to 27, 2025.

While each artist employs a distinct visual language, their works quietly resonate through recurring elements such as the human figure, gestures, and subtle traces of emotion. Clear faces, fragmented expressions, or interior worlds revealed through bodies and ornamentation—each emerges from a different direction, yet together they form a curious and unexpected dialogue.

With vivid colors and densely layered imagery, the exhibition space becomes a field where gazes intersect and multiply. Memories, prayers, and fragmented narratives unfold across the room, allowing the three artists’ worlds to overlap, approach, and drift apart, creating a shared landscape—like a garden of faces.

Takuto Kadokura
Born in Saitama, Takuto Kadokura graduated from Musashino Art University with a focus on fashion design. He worked as a pattern maker at Comme des Garçons while creating necklaces inspired by his beloved anime Pretty Cure, sharing them online under the name “22nd Century Jedi,” which gained significant attention.
After becoming independent, he began presenting paintings under his own name, exploring the theme of “things that come toward us.” His works feature uniquely shaped plants, figures, and symbols, filling the canvas with striking compositions and bold color combinations that captivate viewers with an addictive allure.
Recent solo exhibitions include Grand Bouquet (MELLOWROOM, Okayama, 2025), More is More (Shimokitazawa Arts, Tokyo, 2025), and If There Are Ghosts, Then There (Wada Garou, Tokyo, 2024). Group exhibitions include Flowers and Muscles (gallery10 [TOH], Tokyo, 2025) and Super Agitate Mujina Hole (buzzChika, Tokyo, 2024).

uxo uxo BIRD
Between 2021 and 2024, uxouxo BIRD published a series of art books exploring flowers, insects, water, scars, and habits from multiple perspectives. Centering on the idea of preserving memories without beautifying or altering them, the artist frequently creates drawings layered over photographs, capturing the rawness of personal impressions.
Her works oscillate between innocence and a subtle toxicity, forming a delicate yet striking visual world.

Maya Nukumizu
Born in Kyoto, Maya Nukumizu graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design and completed its graduate program in Fine Art. She moved her base to Tokyo in 2012 and studied under Keiichi Tanaami from her university years onward.
Influenced by the manga culture she grew up with, Nukumizu depicts a vibrant yet slightly perilous world filled with characters possessing large eyes and layered expressions. Through dense, multi-layered imagery, she gives form to invisible traces—like ghosts lingering in the flow of time.
Her practice spans exhibitions in Japan and abroad, participation in art fairs, and collaborations such as CD cover artworks.
Recent solo exhibitions include Diffused Reflections (NADiff a/p/a/r/t, Tokyo, 2021), I can see Everything (Ten Haaf Projects, Amsterdam, 2018), and GLOW IN THE DARK (mograg gallery, Tokyo, 2016). Publications include Marguerite (ERECT Lab., 2013) and ArtJamming 002 Maya Nukumizu (Art Jam Contemporary, 2009).
