The Garden of Faces

December 12th
— 27th, 2025
Wada Garou is pleased to present The Garden of Faces, a group exhibition featuring new works by Takuto Kadokura, uxouxo BIRD, and Maya Nukumizu, on view from December 12 to 27, 2025.

While each artist employs a distinct visual language, their works quietly resonate through recurring elements such as the human figure, gestures, and subtle traces of emotion. Clear faces, fragmented expressions, or interior worlds revealed through bodies and ornamentation—each emerges from a different direction, yet together they form a curious and unexpected dialogue.

With vivid colors and densely layered imagery, the exhibition space becomes a field where gazes intersect and multiply. Memories, prayers, and fragmented narratives unfold across the room, allowing the three artists’ worlds to overlap, approach, and drift apart, creating a shared landscape—like a garden of faces.

Takuto Kadokura
Born in Saitama Prefecture. Graduated from Musashino Art University, Department of Spatial Design, Fashion Course. While working as a pattern-maker at COMME des GARÇONS, he presented necklace works inspired by the Pretty Cure anime under the name “22nd Century Jedi,” gaining wide attention on social media.
After becoming independent, he began painting under his own name, exploring a unique worldview themed around “things that come toward us.” With vivid color palettes and striking compositions, he depicts distinctively formed plants and figures, creating images with strong visual pull.
Recent solo exhibitions include Grand Bouquet (MELLOWROOM, Okayama, 2025) and If There Are Ghosts, Then Over There (Wada Garou, Tokyo, 2024).

Between 2021 and 2024, she published a series of works exploring delicate subjects such as flowers, insects, water, wounds, and habits from multiple angles. Cherishing the stance of “not beautifying memory as much as possible,” she creates many works that are drawn onto photographs. Expressions that preserve fragments of personal memories as they are given rise to her distinctive world.
Recent solo exhibition: May I Guide You Through the Water? (Satellite, Taiwan, 2025).

Maya Nukumizu
Born in Kyoto Prefecture. Relocated to Tokyo in 2012. Completed the Master’s Program in Art Expression at the former Kyoto University of Art and Design.
Studied under Keiichi Tanaami from her university years.
Drawing from manga culture that deeply influenced her since childhood, she depicts the infinite protagonists that exist in the world with a positive spirit. Her pop, information-dense style is characterized by energetic worlds filled with unseen traces, lingering like ghosts in a space.
In addition to exhibiting widely in Japan and abroad, she participates in art fairs and works across various fields—including creating CD jacket artwork for Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku and Macaroni Empitsu.
Recent solo exhibition: STRANGE STRANGERS (OIL by Bijutsu Techo Gallery, Tokyo, 2025).
