Wada Garou Tokyo is pleased to present I Will Be with You Until You Melt, a solo exhibition by sculptor Emi Sekiguchi, opening on April 25. After completing her studies at Tohoku University of Art & Design, Sekiguchi was inspired by the twists and turns of a camphorwood log that resembled a child standing upright. Since then, she has continued to create works featuring children as a central motif. The softness of camphorwood, the smooth curves of her carvings, and the vivid colors enrich the emotions and narratives embedded within her sculptures. This exhibition will primarily showcase new works, alongside a series depicting sweets and fruits with eyes. 〈Artist Statement〉
I am searching for a form of happiness in the sculptures I create from camphor wood, leaving behind something meaningful. It could be a sweet, delicious cake, a jewel-like fruit, or the image of a child in a fleeting moment. I would be happy if I could trap something that will eventually disappear within a tree, preserving its existence for a time. I want to be surrounded by such forms of happiness.
