Wada Garou is pleased to present What Can Be Seen Through the Window, a two-person exhibition featuring Sacco Arai and Gakuto Yamaguchi, opening on July 30.
 
Arai has developed a practice centered on figures situated within imagined spaces, combining imagery inspired by films, literature, and other sources. Through her own curiosity and gaze, she captures fleeting moments inhabited by a diverse range of individuals in an expansive world.
 
Yamaguchi, by contrast, has pursued a body of work that investigates the notion of the “picture plane as constraint.”  His attention converges inward, toward the pictorial space itself, resulting in close observation and sustained contemplation of his chosen subjects.
 
In this exhibition, the two artists—whose approaches to the picture plane stand in striking contrast—engage with the shared theme of the “window.” For Arai, the window functions as a device through which unexpected moments can be discovered within the broader world. For Yamaguchi, it serves as a frame that concentrates attention upon a specific subject.
 
Although both artists look through the same “window,” their gazes open onto fundamentally different vistas. Through Arai’s expansive world of fleeting encounters and Yamaguchi’s condensed, inward-looking explorations, the exhibition invites viewers to experience two distinct ways of seeing and constructing pictorial space.
